Xerox Wall Works

1993 - 2025

I began using large-scale Xeroxes as a medium in 2001 to create drawings for the project 'The Blessing / La Bendición'. Producing images in a manner similar to how architectural plans are printed made sense to me due to my background in the field. The term 'wheat-pasting' or 'throwing up' is often used by graffiti artists who glue posters and images on walls instead of using spray paint. My technique for creating Xerox images references wheat-pasting, which is a cost-effective way to mass-produce images and reach larger audiences. My method embraces the fragility of the Xerox, which is occasionally adhered to walls or canvas when displayed indoors.

“HOME”

BOOKS & BOOKS, CORAL GABLES

2025

For my solo exhibit at Books & Books Coral Gables titled “HOME”, I created  a twenty-foot long by nine-foot tall Xerox of the location where my warehouse  once stood in downtown Miami across from a grouping of 33 postcards that  display images of previous installations, sculptures and exhibitions that all toke  place in Miami.

AFTER DURER

In 2022 I created two large Xeroxs for my exhibition at David Castillo Gallery ti tled “After Durer”. The image of the Sport-Fisherman boat in the Atlantic framed the location of  the TOMORROWLAND art gallery that I opened in 2012 and operated for less  than one year. The Xerox images were fourteen-feet tall and over forty-feet  long. The Xeroxs were used for a photoshoot in Elle magazine pictured below.

PASTOR FORBES

DAVID CASTILLO GALLERY

The Xerox’s pictured below were created while I was collaborating with Pastor  James Forbes for a performance in the yard of the David Castillo Gallery. The  backdrop I created for the Gospel music performed by Pastor Forbes and his daughter were of images of the Chartres Cathedral in France. Pastor Forbes  and I collaborated on a handful of other smaller works where he wrote the text  using glue and glitter over images of Chartres I chose and printed..

“SPRING”

The backdrop I created for my installation at the Musuem of Contemporary Art  in North Miami was of the view from my studio and home facing East. The work  was part of a larger exhibition titled “Metro Pictures” curated by Bonnie Clear water and Silvia Karmen-Cubiñas.

“SPRING”

Now part of the ICA Miami collection in the Design District, Miami.  The image is site-specific and printed to scale accordingly.

As it appeared in Moca North Miami as the backdrop for the sculpture  “After Durer”, the image was twenty-feet by sixty-feet long.

“WISHING WELL”

The image on the wall is of the “Wishing Well” when it was first exhibited at  the Moore Space in the Design District. The “Witching Well” was exhibited and  documented underneath Interstate 395 and next to the train-tracks.

“EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED:

PERSONIFIED IN AN IMAGE, PERTAINITNG TO A LIFESTYLE  THAT IS NOT EXCULSIVE TO THAT OF BEING AN ARTIST”  2003

The image of the Sport-Fisherman in the Atlantic is one I first exhibited at Rock et Projects gallery with Nina Arias and Nik Cendric. I placed a large image of  the Sport-Fisherman both inside of the art gallery and also wheat pasted it onto  a billboard across the street. The image of the wheatpasted billboard I created  came out on the cover of “The Street” magazine which was a predecessor to  the New Times periodical.

“UNTITLED”

INNAUGURAL EXHIBITION AT BELEN JESUIT PREPATORY 2003

The two Xerox’s I created the opening of the Belen Jesuit Preparatory Museum  are of two images of my fiancé. The Xerox’s are of photos of “El Farrito” in Key  Biscayne, Florida and the drawings over them are done so with paint.

THE BAKERY WALL SIGN PERMITS

MIAMI

2011-2014

My art studio and home in downtown Miami, known as “The Bakery” had two  Wall-Sign permits assigned to it which it was awarded during the lottery that  toke place when the ordinance was created.

The two wall-signs are not Xerox’s but printed vinyl banners that need to be  displayed on the property in accordance with the advertising sign ordinance.  The second sign is on the North side of the building facing the highway.
