Pastor Forbes

David Castillo Gallery, Miami, FL
2007

I met Pastor James Forbes while visiting the David Castillo gallery in Wynwood and realized he was a good man, the galleries neighbor and occupying and  living in the bay next door. Pastor Forbes had an apartment next to the gallery  and enough space for a modest church where he worshipped with his daughter  daily. During the next few months, I befriended Pastor Forbes and worshiped  with he and his daughter, shortly thereafter we began making a small number  of paintings together. I consequently invited Pastor Forbes to perform with his  daughter in the galleries yard which was a parking lot and he agreed.

The exhibit that Pastor Forbes performed at and where we exhibited our  collaborative work together was curated by Amy Rosenblum and was titled “Structures & Stories“. “Structure” refers to post-structuralism, physical structures (like architecture & constructivism), and structure’s of thought (including categories and hierarchies). “Stories” bring “structure” down to earth.  Pastor Forbes moved and closed the church in 2008 due to the economic hardship and rent increases.
