“People under the Stairs” was curated by Claire Brukel. The title of the exhibit was inspired by a Wes Craven horror film. The protagonist “Fool” is on a quest to return home, overthrow the zombies under the stairs and save the maiden, “Alice.”
In light of the victory (Nov-Jan-2007) in Iraq and recent capture of the Hussein Family, I choose to place a noose in the center of the room, photograph it and then re-create it as a facsimile on the north wall.
Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging for crimes against humanity November 5, 2006 and was executed on December 30, 2006 at approximately 6:00 a.m. local time. His cousin, Barzan Ibrahim, the head of the “Mukhabarat”, Saddam's security agency, was on January 15, 2007, hung and decapitated by the rope indicating that the drop was too long. The video was seen on Youtube by millions of individuals as is still posted to date.
