CUBAN ARMOR
The cast are of a Cuban Guayabera’s.
The origin of the name Guayabera may come from a Cuban legend that tells of a poor countryside seamstress sewing large pockets into her husband's shirts for carrying guava (guayabas) from the field. Guayaber may also have originated from the word yayabero the word for a person who lived near the Yayabo River in Cuba.

NEON ELLEGUA
In Yoruba mythology, Ellegua is an Orisha (spirit) associated with "opening the ways", or crossroads. In the Ifa tradition practiced by the Babalawo (high priest) Ellegua is used to open the way for the of prophesy. Worshippers often have a cement head with a metal spike in the top, and cowrie shells for eyes and mouth, as a representation of Ellegua which receives offerings and protects in return. Santeria practitioners often have an Ellegua head behind their front door as he is said to protect the entry way and prevent harm from entering the dwelling.

MARTI AS A LAMP
Inspired by Dadaism and design, I chose to make a lead crystal sculptures of the bust of Jose Marti as a lamp. It reminded me a great deal of Dali’s “Evocation of the Apparition of Lenin” 1933
