ARCHITECTURE

2001-ongoing

75 NW 12 ST.

Miami, FL.

Originally constructed in the 1950’s, the building was modified once Interstate 395 was designed and built, circa 1972. The Federal Highway/Interstate Act decimated low-income communities throughout the country to allow for traffic to lead out of the city-center out to the suburbs. Due to the need to build I-395, 75 NW 12 St. was truncated from being a rectangle into a triangle. Shortly thereafter, riots, a depressed economy and hurricane’s were justifications for allowing the property to fall into disrepair. After years of neglect it eventually was abandoned and consequently was used as a shooting gallery (heroin den) until I acquired it from the owner/developer in 2000. Current plans call for a second story addition involving more studio space and a small open air-theatre. Plans are in the final stages of permitting, 1/10
